Breaking: Dr Ngozi Okonjo Iweala Clinches WTO DGship

Nigeria’s Dr Ngozi Okonjo Iweala has clinched the prized position of Director General of the World Trade Organisation.


All that is left is a formal announcement of her victory. Sources at the Geneva office confirmed she has proved her mettle for the job

Dr Okonjo-Iweala emerged as the first African and the first female to attain the position of DG of WTO by springing up as the finalist after hedging out South Korea’s current trade Minister, Yoo Myung-hee in a fierce battle for the coveted job.

Dr Okonjo-Iweala polled 104 votes from 164 member countries to defeat her only opponent  South Korea’s trade minister at the final stage of the race. Many records has been broken by her.
